Our dad Rene Raque Senior loves sports. He lives it and breathes it. Sunday is his day to watch whatever he wants, Saturday is our mums day and he takes her to whatever garage sale she wants to go to.
Our brother Rene Jr is a sports nut too and together they rant, rave, curse and compete for money, it’s not much money, it’s the bragging rights that means the most. The photo is the two of them on a Sunday afternoon and yes, if it looks familiar this was photo bombed by Tim Duncan from the San Antonio Spurs! It was featured on USA Today Sports, reddit, imgur and more.
Those were the good times.
The last few years have been a tough go for our dad. Four years ago he was diagnosed with colon cancer which they removed, three years ago they discovered he had stage 4 liver cancer, since then he has had around 40 chemo treatments but 3 months ago it has spread to his lungs. On top of all this he is struggling with a massive hernia. He is in pain daily.
The doctors have stopped the chemo and basically given up.
We are trying ancient alternative options with a Chinese doctor and even looking into taking a trip to Mexico to the cancer clinic there but our parents savings are depleted and we are losing hope. We want to prolong his life for as long as we can so he can see his so, Rene Jr, get married next year. The alternative options are $500 a month and the cancer clinic in Mexico is $60,000, certainly more than our parents, or we, have. We are willing to try and do whatever it takes.
Our thoughts go out to anyone that is struggling with cancer, it’s nasty, but when the doctors give up, that doesn’t mean you have to.
Our thanks to all for taking the time to read our story and hope you get a laugh from the photo bomb, it will be his online legacy!
Thank you from all of us.
