Beating Leukemia

Donation protected
A 51-year-old single mother of two in Lebanon is clinging to her life by a thread. She was leading a normal life. Struggling to earn a living from a decent job to support herself and her kids when her life suddenly turned upside down.  She is now in the midst of the biggest fight of all, a fight for life.

On July 22nd, she was admitted as an emergency for a blood transfusion due to severe anemia, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The next morning she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She stayed there for 45 days, during which she underwent 2 rounds of chemotherapy treatments. She failed the first induction round. It was found that she had the FLT3 gene mutation, which, to normal people like us, means the disease is very aggressive, harder to treat, and has a very high recurrence rate. The second round of chemotherapy was combined with a targeted therapy that succeeded in reducing the leukemic cells. On October 9th, she was readmitted for another round of what they call a "consolidation treatment."

Her only chance in life is through a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). In the meantime, more rounds of chemo would be necessary depending on how well her body tolerates it.

Having Leukemia is devastating, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is also especially challenging when the treatment resources are scarce, and the insured are few and lucky. The BMT will cost $75000 if a family member turns out to be a match. If the donations come from a stranger, the surgery would have to be moved to a different hospital with a higher quote, and time is of the essence. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Through donations from friends and non-profit organizations in Lebanon, a small portion of the amount was collected. Resources in Lebanon are minimal. It is a tough place to be in, and everyone is suffering. Her family is still knocking on every door. She still needs a lot more.

I'm asking you to join me in giving her a chance in life. Please help me give her the hope, courage, and strength to beat this disease. Allow her kids to enjoy some more time with their mother. Every minute counts.
Your donation, whether small or large, will be a big help and greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.
