My mom has a 6cm fibroid in her uterus and is in chronic pain and bleeding. The doctor said that a non-pregnant woman’s uterus measures 7.2-9cm long and 4.5-6cm wide, meaning that her fibroid has grown to take up about 2/3rds of her uterus. 2-3 years ago, the fibroid was half the size, meaning that it is also growing quickly.
She was recommended—and is considering—undergoing partial abdominal hysterectomy (a surgery to remove the whole uterus) in South Korea, where fibroid surgeons are exceptional, but she and our family is worried about the cost.
Treatment in the United States is an option, but with a major surgery like this, I would love for my mom to go to a place where she can freely communicate her concerns, thoughts, and have a level of comfort in her native language and country.
I see it as a huge blessing that I am home for the summer, and I would love to be able to go with my mom and be present with her throughout the whole process. Ideally, we would love to travel as soon as possible (first week of July), since we need to account for the 2 weeks of quarantine.
The total goal of $6,000 includes:
Airline tickets for my mom and me: $2,000 (a portion of what roughly costs $1,500 each per person).
The remaining $4,000 will help with surgery costs. The operation averages about $7,000.

Hello! My name is Yeju Kim and I decided to start a GoFundMe for my mom.
It’s definitely a little uncomfortable asking for monetary help like this and it feels very foreign, but I gathered up the courage to potentially receive aid in hopes to alleviate the financial burden on my family (specifically my mom). After all, I’ve been the one taking all of their money to attend a very expensive college!! (Some of you may also know my younger brother- & he too will be in college starting this Fall!) With tuitions and beyond, finances have especially been an area of concern for the Kim family recently.
Any amount is a tremendous help, and prayers are especially appreciated. Again, thank you so much.
