A few weeks ago, Stacey was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 2 multiple myeloma, a less common blood cancer that affects the bones. The cancer is not curable, but is treatable. Stacey had had a fracture on her spine due to a tumor, which led to the diagnosis. She recently spent 3 days in the hospital to go through a series of tests and stage the cancer.
Stacey is now looking at a 10-month treatment. After 16 weeks of chemotherapy, she'll be prepped for a bone marrow transplant over the course of five weeks. The bone marrow transplant has a long recovery time, with 2-3 weeks in the hospital after the transplant and then three months of isolation to prevent any infection.
As this is happening during the Covid-19 pandemic, Stacey's family is already experiencing a loss of income from George's work at the restaurant and Stacey will likely have limited ability to work the next school year. With Charlotte just about to start high school, there are likely going to be many ways to help Stacey and her family over the next 10 months. Her friends are starting this Go Fund Me campaign as one way to help support Stacey.
