Help us deliver Refugee Camp in my Neighbourhood in 2021.
The Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood project (RCIMN) raises awareness about the reality of the refugee journey. Tour guides who are former refugees or currently seeking asylum, have guided participants through the interactive exhibition which simulates the refugee journey.
This unique project is shaped by real life experiences of community members and is co-designed and delivered with local organisations. It has created a space for personal stories to be shared, reminding us to affirm our shared responsibilities to protect human rights.
Tours of the RCIMN have had a significant impact on tour participants, especially the tour guides who share their personal lived experience. Some quotes from tour participants:
‘The personal stories allowed me to place myself in someone else’s shoes’, - High School student, 2019
‘It changed my perspective of what a refugee looks like and how it’s not just children and parents, it’s teenagers too.’ High school Student, 2019.
‘The Tour Guides - bearing witness to their experience was painful and admirable. The story telling was profoundly respectful. The legal representatives describing the tour of visa situations were excellent’ Council worker, 2019.
Donating to the crowd funding campaign will provide training and employment opportunities for tour guides who will share their personal stories and journeys with tour participants in 2021.
