Mitch’s road to recovery

Donation protected
Hi Everyone, firstly I would like to thank you all for taking time to read Mitch’s story.

Most reading this will know who I am, but for those who don’t, my name is Justine and Mitch is my brother in law (married to my sister, Jamie-Lee)

ABOUT MITCH-
Mitch is 24 years old and he was born with Cystic Fibrosis which is a condition that affects his respiratory system & causes damage to lungs and other organs in the body and has no cure.
The past year Mitch’s health was deteriorating and he was in and out of hospital for routine 2 weeks at a time IV anti biotics and lung function tests at RPA. After spending most of his time in hospital, the doctors told Mitch he would need to go on an urgent transplant list for double lung and liver transplant, as he was going down hill and needed these new organs ASAP to see many more years of his young life ahead.

Tuesday, 14th of November 2023, Mitch got a call from the doctors/surgeons at St Vincent’s hospital saying he needed to come in, they had a donor that was a fit for Mitch and he needed to come straight down to go in for his transplant surgery early the next morning.

Yesterday, Wednesday 15th November 2023 at 4am Mitch underwent his 16 hour double lung and liver transplant surgery performed by the amazing lung and liver specialists and the team at St Vincent’s hospital.
After the long hard wait Jamie-Lee got a call from the surgeons saying everything went well and he will be going back to the ICU ward for close monitoring and she could come in and see him with Mitch’s dad Murray.
He is in an induced coma at the moment in ICU and the surgeons said they may try wake him after 2 days but could be like this for 7 days but are monitoring his progress everyday.

Mitch is a wonderful husband to my sister Jamie-Lee and an amazing, devoting father to his little boy, 5 month old Carter and as hard as this hit him, he knew he had to do this to have many more healthy years with his family and most importantly, watching his little boy grow up!

I have made this fundraiser as Mitch will be out of work for 4- 6 months, living away from his home in Gulgong to be close by to St Vincent’s hospital for regular hospital checks and appointments to make sure everything is going well, and with bills, a mortgage to pay and Christmas just around the corner,I want to be able to take away the financial burden for Mitch and Jamie-Lee so Mitch can have a good stress free recovery!

Any amount of money donated, big or small I know Mitch and Jamie-Lee will be forever grateful for you support !

I will keep you all updated on Mitch and his progress.

Thank you all so much !
