Help for Chino’s Medical Expenses

Hi friends and family, we are reaching out to ask for your support for our Tio Chino.
If you know Chino, you know he would take the shirt off his back for you. He would fix your roof in a heartbeat if you asked him. He always shows up for his family and never falls short of making you feel loved.
In September of 2023, Chino was diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease. Since then, Chino has been in and out of hospitals. Early this year, he was told there was no longer anything the local doctors could do for him. His care was transferred to USC Keck Hospital due to the severity of his illness. While at USC, we got the devastating news that his liver was no longer functioning and he desperately needed a liver transplant. After many doctor appointments, hospital admissions and intense evaluations, he was qualified and placed on the liver transplant list. Two weeks ago, Chino was in the hospital once again for a week straight half due to a third blood infection. Slowly but surely, the doctors were able to control his infection at USC hospital and continued to monitor his symptoms. On May 30th, Chino and Maribel got the call that a liver was found for Chino and he was expected to have the transplant done that same afternoon. God decided this liver was not for him and that he would not get the transplant as expected. Chino’s cardiologist and anesthesiologist found an abnormality and agreed his heart would be put at risk if the surgery was done. Since then, Chino has waited for the call that a liver would be found for him. After 3 phone calls and 2 failed livers, he finally got the call that a liver was found and he would be having the transplant. By the power of God, he went back to USC to await his liver. After a 13 hour successful liver transplant, Chino was moved to the intensive care unit this morning. For the next 10 days, he will be under USC medical care and will move forward towards recovery.
His partner, Maribel, has been his backbone and supporter throughout this entire process. We are fortunate to have her and blessed that our Tio is receiving the best medical care. With the long road of recovery ahead of him, we seek support from friends, family and our community. Prayers are always needed and appreciated more than ever during this time. We hope this GoFundMe can relieve some of the financial burdens from medical expenses for hospital trips and treatment during recovery for Chino.
