Our friend Skip Reiff is fighting for his life right now after almost dying on October 11th. Skip had a rare rupture of a pseudocyst that was growing on his pancreas and was attached to his splenic arteries. In order to stop the bleeding from the rupture and save his life, they had to clamp his spleen, which has caused the spleen to slowly die.
Skip has since learned that in addition to all of the issues with his pancreas and spleen, he has a very dangerous bacterial infection called Actinomycosis. This will require long-term antibiotic treatments. He has constant pain and is required to have drains in his organs. He has been in the hospital (almost the entire time) since October 11th trying to get well, which will likely take a year to fully recover. Every day he takes a step forward, but he often has setbacks. The latest round of tests revealed a stone in his pancreas, requiring a risky surgery that they won't perform at his current hospital requiring him to transfer to a hospital that will.
Skip had initially been approved for home health care through a charity program at his current hospital, allowing him to do his IV antibiotic treatments at home. Now, with the unexpected new pancreatic stone diagnosis and the need to transfer to a different hospital, he will lose that financial assistance.
Skip has been unable to work since the initial rupture and financially really needs our help. His girlfriend Christine has been there for him every step of the way but they are both worried about the mounting medical bills. Skip is such a positive person and always looks on the bright side. This is increasingly getting harder even for him.
