Many Heywood children, particularly those in Prep, are aware of the crisis in Ukraine and pupils have demonstrated sensitive and thoughtful views on the experience of the people of Ukraine and discussed how we could support those affected by the conflict. After discussions with a number of charitable organisations, we have committed to raise money for the cause as we have been advised this will provide the most benefit to the Ukrainian support effort at this time.
On Friday 18th March, Mr O’Connell, Mrs Martin and Mrs Mitchell will invite our Head Boy and Head Girl to soak them with huge containers full of water and ice in front of all of the children, if our wonderful school community can raise £1000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee. Our Head Boy and Head Girl will be assisted by a child selected at random from the families who donated. Furthermore, if we exceed our target of £1,000 we have another surprise in store, please give generously and watch this space!
It promises to be a really worthwhile fundraising event during which the spirit of Heywood will shine through to help, in the small way we can, those suffering from the armed conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
