Hewy tore his ACL and needs surgery. Help this special boy out if you can.
We (Keith and Tabitha) fell in love with and adopted Hewy in 2019 after he experienced abandonment and homelessness several times over his 10-year life. Hewy came to us with a dislocated left hip and a mountain of skin issues. Many of you know the journey we have been on to get our boy back to excellent health - bilateral hip surgeries, reparative femur surgery on his right leg, 6 months of weekly physical therapy to rebuild muscle, dozens of visits with his dermatologist, hundreds of medicated baths, and a lot of medications. Now, whenever he sees a Veternarian or vet tech that assisted him when we first found him 2 years ago they are AMAZED at his progress. They call him “a million dollar dog” and often say how lucky he is to have found us. We know what a cliche it is to say this, but we are definitely the lucky ones. Hewy is the sweetest boy with the biggest heart, best cuddles and the most playful spirit for an old guy.
In early December - about 3 months after he graduated from physical therapy - Hewy started limping again. It turns out he tore his left ACL and has a slippery knee cap on that same leg. Apparently his breed is predisposed to bum ACLs and he might end up tearing his right one at some point in the future (and there isn’t anything we can do to prevent it). It will cost about $5500 total to repair his left leg now and get him back to his fully-functioning self. After investing twice that in previous healthcare for this pup we thought we’d try a fundraiser to help.
We are hoping to schedule his surgery by the end of January to avoid any further discomfort and pain for our best boy. If you would like to pitch in, we have some gifts of gratitude for you.
