Hewes Family

Josh Hewes had a scheduled open heart surgery on March 29, 2023 at Mayo Clinic for an aortic root replacement. The surgery went well and the surgeons were pleased. Unfortunately, when they were taking him off bypass, the left side of his heart did not start beating again. This is extremely rare and occurs in roughly 0.2% of cases. It is called stone heart syndrome. Josh was placed on ECMO to allow his heart to rest and try to recover. If his heart does not recover, Josh will be worked up for a heart transplant.

Due to these complications, both Lisa and Josh will be in Phoenix for the foreseeable future and out of work. I am raising money to help with the medical bills and hotels for the family while they are in Phoenix. Anything helps!

Update: 3/31/23 Josh is going back to the OR for a washout this afternoon. If all goes well, Josh will be listed 1A (top of the list) for a transplant.

Please keep Lisa, Josh, and Luke in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult journey.
