Hettie Bresnan Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
Hettie Bresnan was a talented chef whose life ended far too soon after a long and terrifically brave battle with cancer. In an unparalleled way, Hettie managed to stay true to who she is for her entire life, all the way to her last breath. As those who knew and loved Hettie mourn our loss, many have asked where they can donate in her memory. This is where.
And, this is why...
Before her death, Hettie and I discussed a memorial scholarship in her name for women pastry chefs to stage. She loved the idea and gave her blessing. Staging is an unpaid internship where a chef works for a short time in another chef's kitchen to learn, be exposed to new techniques and cuisines and/or get a paid position. The lack of pay narrows those who can acccess these opportunities, and that's antithetical to Hettie's values.
We want to make sure that more gifted women like Hettie have a chance to continue to grow and share their pastry talent. And, as stories pour in of the many large and small ways that Hettie was always teaching, supporting and giving opportunities to others, it's all the more important to us that this memorial scholarship goes forward.
Please contribute what you can to help carry on Hettie's spirit.
In the future, I hope to create a 501(c)(3) so that your contributions can be tax-deductible, but I just don't have the capacity currently.
