This is John, Michael's son. On October 1, 2023, my dad came down with a bad case of food poisoning while working out of town for his First Aid and Safety job. Because of the fever and chills, he was switching off between Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen. On October 11, 2023, my dad woke up in the early AM knowing something wasn't right. He went into the restroom and the next thing he remembered was waking up, blood on the floor from bleeding internally. He called 911, was rushed to the hospital and put into ICU. Receiving 2 units of blood and taken to surgery, a scope was done to stop the bleeding. My dad recovered from that after some rest, but he lost mobility in his left arm and unable to open his left hand without assistance. He has been told this is a rare thing labeled as Parsonage Turner Syndrome and only affects maybe 1-3 people out of 100,000. There isn't a cure and it can take 1-3 to 5 years to get 70-90% of mobility back. More recently, my dad has developed swelling on the back of that left hand and has been told to wait and see on that also. This has caused him to not be able to work and is currently on long term disability. He is having trouble making his house payment and other expenses.
My dad is also a chef and has a food business called Chef Michael Hogan and that hasn't been doing so well either.
My dad has several awards in cooking and him and his team are
My dad has always been a big part of this community serving as Scout Master for several years watching me become an Eagle Scout to currently taking my sister, who he has partial custody of, to a BSA Girls Troop once a week. He also has mentored culinary students at Papio South High School last year and has donated time, money and food to several charities organizations, and even helped with fundraising efforts for everyday people. My dad has given so much unselfishly to so many over the years. It makes my sister and I very proud.
