Help Mara Survive – A Mother Fighting for Her Future

Hello, my name is Tamara – I'm 52 years old, a mother, and currently in a financial emergency.

I’ve been self-employed since 2016. Below, I’ll share a bit more of my story. For the past two years, I’ve also had a side job to support myself and my son, because my business alone didn’t generate enough income – due to both the economic crisis and a personal one. On May 14th, 2025, that side job was suddenly taken away from me – and now our existence is at risk.

The full story:

I became a single mother in 2009. In 2016, at age 43, the Austrian employment office told me I was “hard to place” (overqualified, too expensive, single mother, etc.) and they suggested early retirement. But my son was only 13 – and I refused to give up.

So I reactivated my small business, which I had originally founded in 2008 and paused in 2010. I had no savings and no budget to hire experts. What I did have was passion and skill – I’m a trained leather goods designer and graduated from Hetzendorf fashion school in 1993.

I taught myself everything: how to build a website and online store, take product photos, manage social media, understand SEO and online marketing. All of this, while handcrafting unique accessories in my living room.

In recent months, my work started to bear fruit – but not enough to get by without a side job. And now that income is gone too.

The facts:

As a self-employed woman in Austria, I have no access to state aid. No unemployment money. No emergency support.

Even if I pause my business and register as unemployed, I won’t receive any payments right away – but my bills won’t wait.

Because I don’t know how long that might take at age 52, I’ve set the goal to cover three months.

Hilf Mara zu überleben – Eine Mutter kämpft um ihre Zukunft

Hallo, mein Name ist Tamara. Ich bin 52 Jahre alt, Mutter – und aktuell in einer finanziellen Notlage.

Seit 2016 bin ich selbstständig, doch um unsere Existenz zu sichern, hatte ich die letzten zwei Jahre zusätzlich einen Nebenjob. Dieser wurde mir am 14. Mai 2025 ganz plötzlich entzogen – ohne Vorwarnung, ohne Absicherung, ohne Klärung. Seitdem steht unsere Existenz auf dem Spiel.

Mein Weg bis hierher

2009 wurde ich alleinerziehend. 2016 – mein Sohn war damals 13 – erklärte mir das AMS, ich sei „schwer vermittelbar“: überqualifiziert, zu teuer, Mutter. Man schlug mir die Frühpension vor. Doch das kam für mich nicht in Frage.

Ich wollte ein Vorbild für meinen Sohn sein und meine Leidenschaft leben. Also reaktivierte ich mein Gewerbe, das ich 2008 gegründet, aber 2010 ruhend gestellt hatte.

Ohne Kapital, aber mit Herz und Durchhaltevermögen, baute ich alles selbst auf: Ich entwarf, nähte, fotografierte, programmierte meine Website samt Onlineshop, lernte SEO, Marketing, Social Media – Schritt für Schritt.

Meine Marke „tikitaki.wien“ wächst. Doch leider reicht der Umsatz derzeit nicht aus, um ohne Nebenjob über die Runden zu kommen.

Warum ich jetzt um Hilfe bitte

Als Selbstständige bekomme ich keine staatliche Unterstützung. Kein Arbeitslosengeld, keine Überbrückungshilfe – und für Förderungen fehlt das Eigenkapital.

Selbst wenn ich mein Gewerbe ruhend melde und mich arbeitslos melde, würde ich erst später Geld bekommen – aber die Rechnungen sind jetzt fällig. Und das bringt nicht nur mich, sondern auch meinen Sohn, unseren alten Hund und unseren 19-jährigen Kater in Schwierigkeiten.

Was ich brauche

Um die kommenden Monate zu überbrücken, bis ich einen neuen Nebenjob finde, brauche ich mindestens 1.200 Euro pro Monat für:

Daher habe ich als Zielbetrag 3.600 Euro angegeben. Jeder Euro hilft – und schenkt mir Luft zum Atmen und Kraft zum Weitermachen.
