On 8/23, my daughter and grandchildren took their beloved fur baby, Hershey, for a swim. Following his swim, Hershey became suddenly ill, requiring immediate attention. Upon arrival at Urgent Veterinary Care in Auburn, they were informed that Hershey was experiencing a life-threatening condition called GDV. Auburn was able to decompress his stomach, buying more time for the family to travel to a hospital more equipped to treat Hershey's condition. Green Acres Veterinary Center in Buffalo was the closest available vet ED to take Hershey in for treatment. Following their arrival, they were informed that Hershey would have to undergo immediate surgery. In order for the clinic to perform the surgery on Hershey, the family was forced to emergently come up with a significant amount of funds (approx. up to $24,000). The surgery was successful with no complications; however, Hershey remains under their care as he is now battling aspiration pneumonia, requiring a lengthier stay and further work-up. We know owning pets can be expensive, but given the emergent circumstances and the prices these clinics are now charging for care, I feel as a community we can help my family with the burden of these sudden costs. Hershey is a special dog and anyone that has ever met him knows just how special he is. Please consider donating to assure Hershey recovers and the family can solely focus on his recovery rather than the financial burden. Thank you.
