As many of you may know, my friends Lei-Ann and John Barnes unfortunately learned that their fur baby, Herschel Walker Barnes, has been diagnosed with canine osteosarcoma. Herschel is two years old and has been nothing but a big, muscular ball of energy since they first rescued him. What Lei-Ann and John thought was just a simple injury, due to some sudden limping and a lull in energy, turned out to be the worst news any animal lover or dog-parent could ever receive. Most of us have pets and would say that they are part of the family and we would do anything or spend anything that we needed to keep them in our lives as long as possible. Lei-Ann and John, though, love their two babies harder than most and this news was not only shocking but a complete heartbreak to them, their family and their friends. Their veterinarian suggested amputation of the affected leg in order to keep the disease from spreading but only if the disease had not already spread to his lungs. Today they got a little bit of good news when learning that he was cleared for the surgery and the disease had not yet spread. Unfortunately, this is a costly surgery and though Herschel Barnes may not barrel around quite like he has for so long, I know that being able to see him run around the house and play with his sister, Bailey, will outweigh any negatives that are involved with this invasive surgery. With that all being said, any help they can receive with the cost of this surgery would be more than appreciated. These two humans aren’t just amazing parents to their pups but are also generally spectacular people who are truly deserving of a helping hand during this trying time. I hope that you may find it in your heart to lend it to them when they need it the most, as I know from personal experience that both of them spend a large amount of their time giving to those in need on a very regular basis just because that is who they are and what is in their own hearts. Herschel brings so much joy to them and to all who are lucky enough to meet, cuddle and play with him and we will all be lucky to spend so much additional time with such a heaven-sent angel. His presence will be appreciated more than ever, which is amazing given how loved and cherished he already is. Thank you in advance for anything you can give. Herschel, Bailey, Lei-Ann, John, myself and many others will be forever grateful.
