Hero's Hope

Currently, many of us may not personally know someone who is afflicted by COVID-19, but if we allow this situation to continue, we all may soon. Contrary to the way many people are treating the situation, this virus is a real problem with real consequences for thousands upon thousands of families. It shouldn't take the death of a loved one for more people to realize this--and it doesn't need to. As a community, it is our duty to come together and help those who are risking their lives daily to prevent us from having to go through the loss many have experienced because of this disease. Our healthcare heroes have not forsaken us, and so we must not forsake them when they need it the most. We CAN make a difference, and we CAN bring hope back to our communities. Hero's Hope is a student-run organization dedicated to bringing back the light in times like these where loneliness and hopelessness are often prominent factors in overwhelming many. However, that's not something we can do alone. It's something we need the entire community's support for. We're counting on YOU to step up to your humanity and stand together with us to support our hospitals.

INITATIVE: We will be trying to supply Ocean Medical Center with tablets for their patients. In a time and situation such as this one, human contact and communication are one of the most important components of maintaining a functioning society. Recently, a great increase in mental health issues has risen in response to the repercussions of COVID-19, as reported by both the CDC and Harvard University. We want to take an approach and help this situation in a way unprecedented until this point, but equally as important. As patients who are afflicted by this disease are often in isolation without means of human contact, and often cannot see their family if they do not have easily accessible communication devices, times can get tough, and hope can start to wane in the face of such circumstances. We want to maintain the patient's connections with other people, which may greatly help alleviate the stress and pressure that often builds when one is in complete isolation. Already, after just around a week of launching the fundraiser, we have raised enough funds to be able to buy almost six tablets! Thank you so much for all of your overwhelming generosity. Together, we can help not only our heroes but also the patients they're working so tirelessly to save. 

Additionally, any of the excess funds we raise will go directly towards purchasing PPE for our healthcare heroes. In the current situation, doctors, nurses, and other staff at our local hospitals cannot afford to social distance, and with the shortage of PPE, they'll be put at a direct, marginal risk when it comes to contracting the coronavirus. The PPE donated could be the difference between life and death for our heroes.
