Heroes Needed for Hardy Family

Hi - I'm Dorothy Szymanski and my husband Dan and I have been friends with the Hardy's for years. Dan and Chuck drove truck together for Perry's Ice Cream and truckers have a tendency to bond with one another. Chuck's brother-in-law Tom was also a driver at Perry's and watching the three of them together was absolutely priceless. Endless joking around, you know how guys pick on each other. We would help each other with projects at each other's houses. My kids and I loved seeing them together. Sadly Tom had health issues of his own due do a standard procedure that went horribly wrong and he passed away in August 2021. Leaving 2 of the 3 musketeers to pal around.

The Hardy's need some heroes..
Calling all Bill’s Mafia, hunters, firefighters, CNAs, nurses, EMTs, police officers, truck drivers and emergency personnel please help a fellow brother and sister in need.

Chuck's story:

Volunteer and Work History:
Chuck is a life member of the Jamison Road Fire Company, he was a paramedic with rural metro ambulance, drove truck for Perry's Ice Cream and owned his own construction/demolition company in his early years. His wife Robin has been a CNA at South Buffalo Mercy Hospital for 32 years.

Personal Note: Like most people their family has had a lot of ups and downs but Chuck has faced everything head on with his wicked sense of humor and faith. Our kids lovingly call him crazy Uncle Chuck even though we aren't related by blood, some friends just become family.

Chuck and Robin have both put others first throughout their lives and careers and are in desperate need of some financial help, prayers and support. They are the type of people that won’t ask for help even though it’s needed and they would be willing to help anyone they can, they have hearts of gold. Between the economy, recently moving (down sizing) due to the house they were living in being sold by the owner, car problems, medical bills and Robin needing to be Chuck's primary caretaker financial help is needed.

Family Life:
Chuck is a loving husband and dedicated father. He has 3 sons. The oldest two are grown, live out of state and are married. His youngest (19) lives at home with Chuck and Robin. Chuck and Robin have taken care of multiple family members from aging parents and their brother-in-law. This family has been through so much and on top of everything Chuck has been through his one son was diagnosed in 2018 with stage 1 seminoma cancer and still needs to have his health monitored for 10 years. I honestly don’t know how much one family is expected to endure. One thing I know for sure is that Robin would go to the ends of the earth for Chuck and this is absolutely devastating for their family. They are at the stage in life when you should be able to plan what your retirement will look like, what vacations you want to take and how you will spend your time together…..They are being robbed of this, cancer is a thief. Not only does it take away the patient’s health, dignity and hope but it robs the entire family of precious milestones that most people take for granted like being there for a child’s wedding, first home, grandchildren, birthdays, holidays, sharing a cup of coffee, a laugh, reminiscing to songs and much more.

Chuck has taken a turn for the worse and is in full hospice care at home. Robin has had to take off to care for Chuck during his multiple surgeries and appointments at Roswell. Robin has used all of her paid time off and has to take an unpaid leave of absence in order to care for Chuck during this difficult time. She made him a promise and wants to honor that by keeping him at home where he can be with Robin, their son Charlie and their german shepherds.

Diagnosis History:
Chuck had his 1st diagnosis of brain cancer in 2008. He went through brain surgery and chemo at that point. He was in remission for approximately 7 years when he was re-diagnosed. He has been battling brain cancer off and on for the past 5 years.

  • Recently he under went brain surgery in June 2022 and on December 23, 2022 right before Christmas they were given the devastating news that the doctors were not sure if there was anything more they could do.
  • His cancer was not responding to the treatments.
  • January they were told the cancer had spread to his spinal fluid and they would do another repeat MRI to decide if anything more could be done.
  • February the family was given the news that no other options were available and hospice was recommended for end of life care.

Please donate to help the Hardy’s. Robin just wants to be by Chuck’s side during his time of need and after all of the people they have helped through volunteering and their careers it’s time that we help them. Every dollar counts, every penny counts.

Money raised will be used to help the family with groceries, rent, monthly expenses, car repairs and medical bills.

Thank you so much for your help and please share Chuck's story. The Hardy's need some heroes and help right now.
