Hi, this is Lory Flanagan and I am fundraising for my beautiful daughter Alyson, who at the age of 28 has been diagnosed with epilepsy.
Alyson is an ER nurse who has been a hero to so many people. She graduated from nursing school and entered the workforce right at the start of COVID and has been providing care during a time of such uncertainty.
Alyson has been struggling these last few months with the new diagnosis of epilepsy and the physical and mental stress the seizures have wreaked on her body.
Over the last 3 months, she has been in and out of several hospitals including Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Stanford and UCSF Medical Center. She has endured intubation, multiple diagnostic tests, medication trials and several ambulance rides and helicopter flights to various medical centers across the state of California.
Due to the severity of her seizures, she has missed multiple days of work as a traveling nurse and has had to end her most recent contract prematurely due to the severity, frequency and duration of her seizures.
At this point, Alyson’s medical team has directed her to cease working and to stop driving until her seizures can be controlled, as she is at high risk for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).
Alyson's not being able to work has placed a severe financial and emotional burden on her as her medical bills and financial obligations have begun piling up.
We are very blessed that Alyson has Matt Carso in her life. He has been by her side every step of the way assisting with her seizures, medications, medical care and the stress involved with searching for a diagnosis.
Matt is also a travel nurse and has spent the last 3 months by Alyson's side night and day while struggling to fulfill his nursing contract obligations.
Matt has been a great sense of comfort not only to Alyson but also to her family. He has been the contact person for all of our questions and has provided detailed status updates on demand. He has been Alyson's staunch advocate during her hospital stays, keeping a watchful eye on her treatment and providing the medical professionals with important information regarding her seizure episodes and her past medical history.
Alyson is preparing for her next journey which will include 6 months of diagnostic testing, treatment and probable surgery to identify the location in her brain that is causing the seizures and find the appropriate treatment. The medical plan has Alyson and Matt splitting their time between several medical facilities in California and their home in Nevada. Alyson and Matt will be essentially traveling full-time to and from her treatments which will create an incredible financial burden on them.
Please consider being one of Alyson's heroes by donating today to this fund that will be used towards travel, lodging, meals, and covering the expenses that would have been covered by their combined income stream.
Alyson’s medical co-payment to date hovers around $12,000.00.
This Mom hopes that if we can provide Alyson with a cushion of financial assistance, she can then spend her time and energy on her treatment and recovery.
Thank you for your consideration,
Lory
