Bety has been saving street dogs in Mexico for well over a decade. The injured, the sick and the broken all get a new chance at life thanks to Bety.

On December 3rd, while trying to rescue stray dogs on the road, Bety was struck be vehicle. She is in the hospital recovering, however will struggle to walk for at least a month.

Bety's runs a solo operation. She has converted her old family home to a shelter, with almost a hundred dogs. She looks after them alone, day in and day out.

I visited her there in November 2021, and saw the state of things myself. There are so many stray dogs in Puebla, Mexico, and despite the roughness of the shelter, it is so much safer and she gives them so much love. Her whole life revolves around saving dog's lives. Together we work to find her dogs loving homes in Canada, however they cannot all be rehomed, and there is a constant line-up of street pups needing care.

With this injury, she will not be able to care for the dogs herself, and will need to hire someone to feed and clean up after the dogs. She expects this to cost about $50/day, per person. Ideally she would have two people at the shelter, but anything helps. These dogs are completely dependent on her, and it's been years since she's had any sort of slush fund for these dogs. Between food and vetting, she is already selflessly deep in debt,
