Help Me Get My Hero Arm - It's Time for Change!

Donation protected

Hi I’m Enas. I am a passionate Spoken Word performer and I was born without my left forearm. I have always been interested in wearing prosthetics and have used them in the past but always struggled with them being heavy, bland and uncanny. I thought that it would only be a dream to find a prosthetic that could represent my personality and help me do the little things that I’ve never been able to do. I’m so excited to have found the Hero Arm. I love what it stands for, how it works, it’s like it was designed with me in mind :)

When I was 9 year old I gratefully received a myo electric arm but it only opened two fingers. It was really heavy for me to wear and I felt imbalanced. It was meant to be helpful but I couldn’t use it which made me feel guilty. NHS prosthetics are designed to look like ‘real limbs’ but as a person of colour I always found that this was a difficult part of receiving and adopting a prosthetic arm. There are limitations. It’s not really my skin - it tries to look like me, to look like a real hand, but it doesn’t because of the skin colour which you can imagine is not really ideal for me.

At 13 I started Spoken Word Poetry and found that it really helped me with my confidence and self esteem. When I started I was very sheltered in myself. My poetry is about the way I look. People get a boost from it. I write for myself and it has pushed me to be the person I am today.

The Hero Arm is very out there, it represents my personality. I am a big character, I’m outspoken. I want the Hero Arm to represent me, to make me stand out as much as I want to but for the right reasons and to inspire others. I can achieve this through wearing the Hero Arm. It is a lightweight, multi grip bionic hand that will not only just physically help me but will also celebrate who I am.

Most Bionic Arms are really expensive at upwards of £20k. This always felt too far out of reach even with fundraising. The Hero Arm costs £10k, which is still a lot of money but feels much more within reach. With a little help (hopefully from some really kind supporters) I might be able to achieve funding a Hero Arm which would be a dream come true.

It would definitely aid my daily life. I would love to be able to ride a bike, open doors whilst holding other things at the same time and do my hair without burning myself.

I know it is a big ask but would you please support me by donating now, to help me make this long awaited dream come true? I will be forever grateful.
