Dear all,
Welcome to Heritage in Motion, a project that brings traditional Indonesian textiles back into movement.
These textiles were never meant to be static objects. They were created to be worn, moved in, and experienced through the body. Over time, that connection has shifted and this project aims to bring it back to life.
Through a film, a wearable textile piece, and a fashion film, Heritage in Motion explores how heritage can exist within contemporary spaces such as nightlife, where identity, rhythm, and community come together.
Within the film, the body plays a central role. Through dance and movement, the textile is activated. Not as a garment, but as something that moves, responds, and transforms. The body becomes a medium to experience heritage and translate it into the present.
For this project, I researched the rhythmic technique and symbolism of ikat weaving, and its connection to electronic music and self-expression. Through this process, I aim to build a bridge between these worlds, while exploring my own position within the Dutch-Indonesian diaspora.
A little bit of help is needed and a small donation appreciated for my crew. Lots of love Lois
Terimah Kasih banyak
