My name is Herdosia Kalambayi Bentum and I am a candidate for Ward 3 Alderperson in the city of St. Louis.I was born in St. Louis and I have seen the results of the violence from the police against black people, the gentrification of the Black community, and the terrible education system that fails Black children every day. I was a victim of the education myself after I was bussed to a white school. I had two brothers who were victims who were murdered in horizontal violence(Black on Black).
My experiences make me well suited to enter this campaign against the status quo, a campaign against the system that is held up by my opponent and his family who have dominated Ward 3 or 43 years. We have to stand up against the oppressive circumstances that have been overseen by my opponent and his family,
Between the years 2000 and 2010 28% of Ward 3 disappeared, were pushed out, gave up,
My campaign is one calling for reparations to the Northside Black community in the form of houses owned by the infamous,” Land Reutilization Authority”. I am fighting to create Black community control of schools where the Black community finally can get control over who teaches our children and what they are taught. I want to end the violence in the Black community through a real program of economic development that will create new Black businesses and improve the Black businesses that already exist.
We can make a great economic and social transformation in the Northside in general and Ward 3 in particular, and with your help I will be the next Alderperson in Ward 3.
