If you frequent the Adamstown area in PA, then you have probably stumbled upon a quaint little shop by the name of Deer Creek Farm owned and operated by Kathy Lesher and her husband Jesse, where they sell potted herbs and other country gifts. Kathy, a former school teacher, now Berks County’s Herb Lady, is a wife, a mother to two daughters, a daughter herself to a WWII Marine Veteran, a grandmother, a friend, and she has become a true inspiration to many of those around her. I’ve never met a stronger or more capable woman than my mother. She has always put others before herself.
In September of 2014, Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer, an unfortunate second time in her life, and underwent double mastectomy surgery to remove the tumors. In March of 2015 the cancer had spread to her lungs. She has been in and out of the hospital, to numerous doctors, and they are still looking for the answers. Kathy has become weak, she has lost weight, she is using an oxygen tank to help her breathing, and she can't sleep longer than a few hours at a time without waking up coughing. Because of this Kathy and Jesse are currently unable to run their business and medical bills have been piling up one after another.
Asking for help is difficult. My mother always taught me to be strong and work hard but that it is also okay to ask for help when you need it. My sister, Jessica and I have come together to ask you for support. Any small donation will help our parents financially for medical bills, on going treatment, and dietary needs. Any donation helps!
