Herbie's new lungs

As many of you know, our dad is in need of a double lung transplant due to COPD and Emphysema.  This week we got the news that he is now listed for the double lung transplant and we could not be more excited for him.  It has been a long road just to get to this point.  Many trips to Philadelphia and tons of test were done during every trip just to get listed.            Growing up, our dad was a very active man.  He volunteered years and years of coaching softball and basketball for our school and township, loved to garden, swim, ride bike, and work outside on the house.  All of this has stopped because of this disease.  We pray he gets this transplant and will be able to get back doing the little things he loved.  Now that he has grandchildren....15 to be exact....he would also be able to enjoy and participate in their endeavors instead of being a bystander.            Due to our dads place on the list, we can get a phone call at anytime that lungs are available.  Once he has the surgery he will be living within Penn Hospital and adjacent transplant housing facilities for three to six months minimum and will not be able to come home until cleared.  With this being said, financially, our mom will have to live down there with him and will be unable to work.   Due to these arrangements, we(all five daughters) will be taking turns traveling back and forth from Lancaster to Philadelphia to help with the recovery process so we can support and be there for not only our dad but also our mom.           We know this will be a stressful time for all of us and we do not want our mom and dad to worry about added expenses that might come up while mom is not working.   All money raised will go towards not only his surgery but also towards the cost of travel and housing during his recovery.  It will also be used to pay for life sustaining and anti rejection medications that the insurance does not cover, as well as any added out of pocket expenses.      If you can not financially donate, prayers and messages of encouragement are greatly appreciated.   Thank you all for all of the support along this journey.   Updates will posted for those of you who are following us on this journey.    #teamtransplant  #beadonorsavealife
