I trust that you are safe and well amidst these trying times. Initially, I struggled with the decision to create this GoFundMe considering the current climate of our country and the world at large. It felt selfish to ask for donations at a time when people are experiencing so much loss, so much grief and so much uncertainty. Upon further reflection, I had to remind myself that it is in these times that we need each other the most, and I find strength in knowing that my community supports my expansion and growth. It is in these times that our joy and passions are to be used as tools of resistance. It is in these times that we remember that we are all we’ve got.
My journey into herbalism began many years ago when I worked as an Assistant Director for a non profit that ran a summer camp at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG). It was here that I learned about the uses and applications of different herbs and plants and their aptitude to heal not only our physical bodies but also our mental and spiritual entities. Around this time, I also began the journey of redefining my very own concept of spirituality, which has lead me here.
The What:
Empress Karen Rose, Master Herbalist and founder of Sacred Vibes Apothecary, is hosting the next cohort of Level 1 and 2 of her Spiritual Herbalism Apprenticeship. This is a highly competitive program that infuses the wisdom of ancestral healing with practical education about the medicinal properties of herbs and plants. With the proper application of this knowledge, I will be able to bring natural medicine and remedies that can be used for the collective healing and upliftment of the most vulnerable members of my community. Last summer, I had to decline acceptance due to prior obligations and I am fortunate enough to have been granted a second opportunity to access these teachings. I am deeply committed to honoring the legacy of the shamans and curanderas in my lineage who used the power of plants to offer healing and guidance to the world around them. How You Can Help:
The cost of this 6 month program is $4500.
This does not include the cost of working materials which is not limited to: jars, honey, glycerine, bottles, funnels, droppers, reference books and other supplies needed for the creation of tinctures, elixirs and salves.
I am hoping to raise a total of $5000 by October 31st to begin my journey of medicine making.
Any and all donations are received in deep gratitude and will be used for the sole purpose of funding this endeavor.
