Romare Bearden art- exhibit, shipping, insurance, framing
Want to help students and a community immerse themselves in inspirational and transformative artwork? We are bringing artwork by Romare Bearden to St Cloud, MN! Funds raised will be used to cover the shipping and insurance costs for 10 pieces of Romare Bearden’s work to travel to MN from NY and back. We will also receive 5 posters of his work that need to be framed once they arrive. Funds will also cover the cost of framing students’ art.
"The Conversation: Inspired teachings, connections, and community," features collages by Bearden, Sarah Drake (our founder), as well as some of Drake’s students. Bearden is Drake’s muse, plus, she uses his work in her classes. Drake is deeply moved and inspired when she sees Bearden’s work on exhibit, so she’s excited to bring that experience to her students and Central MN.
The exhibit is June 29-July 29 at Paramount Center for the Arts in St Cloud, MN. A reception will be held on July 10 at 5 PM.
Your tax-deductible donation to herARTS in Action will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500 or $5,000. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support!

About Romare Bearden, Sarah Drake, and herARTS in Action
Romare Howard Bearden (1911-1988) is recognized as one of the most creative and original visual artists of the twentieth century. The New York Times described Bearden as "the nation's foremost collagist. He was an American artist, author, and songwriter, and worked with many types of media including cartoons, oils, and collages. He began his artistic career creating scenes of the American South. Later, he worked to express the humanity he felt was lacking in the world after his experience in the US Army during World War II on the European front. Bearden's early work focused on unity and cooperation within the African-American community. He told the stories he saw as a social worker and experienced as an African American.
Sarah Drake, MS, is an award-winning collagist, author-illustrator, teaching artist, and entrepreneur in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. She has exhibited her artwork internationally in New York, Moscow, London, Tokyo, Ouagadougou, and Ulaanbaatar. Sarah has a Master of Science degree in Social Responsibility and a Bachelor of Elective Studies with minors in Ethnic Studies and Human Relations from St Cloud State University. She is the founder/CEO of herARTS in Action (nonprofit) and Adapdom (startup). Sarah’s work on human rights and social justice topics over the past two decades inspire her artistic creations. Creating art that shows Black people in a positive light so her biracial daughter can see herself represented in the world around her is what drives Sarah. She uses her lived experiences to help people better understand those who appear different from them.
The mission of herARTS in Action is to create an equitable world through increased access and social justice with art. We achieve this by producing art, facilitating art experiences, and selling artwork that educates on global topics, creates social change, and funds sustainability projects globally and locally. The vision is that herARTS in Action contributes to, 1) sustainable socioeconomic status, including education, employment, and health, for women and girls based on the stated need and desires of the people and in a manner respectful of the culture, 2) educational success for children by providing supplies needed in and outside the classroom, and 3) nontraditional access to visual art for those most marginalized to attain art skills and experiences.
