Growing up, Jana Witherspoon (Jana Edwards), was no stranger to the C word. In some twisted way, it has always been a part of her childhood, teen years, adulthood, and still today. Her mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends... and now Jana has been diagnosed with Stage 4, Breast Cancer - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

It still feels strange to say. Since she was 35, she has been going to get her annual mammogram due to extensive family history. She's had the BRCA testing. She's done all the right things.

Right after Christmas, she went in for her yearly screening. A few days later, they wanted her to come in for an ultrasound because they found a mass. Jana and Bert left that appointment knowing, but not REALLY knowing... the radiologist couldn't tell them what they already knew. She needed a biopsy.

The next week, she went in for the procedure and was told it was time to contact a breast surgeon. A few days later her “lady doctor,” who has been AMAZING throughout this whole ordeal, called Solis twice on her behalf to see if they could expedite the results. Finally, the doctor called, after office hours, when she saw the report come in.

Jana has gone through a double mastectomy and received news Monday that they were unprepared for. Her cancer has metastasized and she has now been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She will be getting a couple of other treatment opinions, but this road that looked to be a few months long, will now be years long.

It will be a hard journey, but Jana has a village of friends, family, and coworkers supporting and praying for her!
