Henry get well soon fund
Donation protected
We are Nick & Connie (The Diesels) and we are raising funds to help pay for our goofy little guy, Henry.
On Tuesday Night Henry began having strokes out of the blue. We rushed him to the 24 hour emergency hospital where he was stabilized and had a series of tests done to discover the cause and keep him from losing his life. The doctors predicted heart failure to be causing him to have stroke like episodes. After 4 overnight stays, 2 rounds of bloods, 2 cardiology work ups, ECG's ECO's, ultrasounds etc, 4 days of testing, sedatives, anti seizure meds, X rays and Fluid IV's He was diagnosed with a blood infection, liver infection, ear infection, Gastrointestinal Disease, A collapsed right and left lung with clogged tubes from chronic asthma, Fluid surrounding the lungs, A small mass of tissue in his chest covering the heart on an ECG, Stage 4 heart disease, Widened ventricles and an elongated heart and lungs.
On the early hours of Saturday morning we had to take him home from the ER due to lack of funds to keep him there for the recommended extra nights, with the relieving news that he will live provided he sticks to ongoing medication and routine cardiology work ups every 6-9 months, but his ability to play, leap around like the sweet dufus he is and live a normal kitty life is over. He is currently on 8 separate medications 2x per day for the next month and will be on blood thinners, beta blockers, sedatives to keep his heart rate low, 2 types of asthmatic inhalers and special Gastrointestinal food for the rest of his life, which we are doing everything in our power to make a long and comfortable one.
During this horrible event and the long period of hospitalization, we exhausted every financial avenue we could, spending over $12,000 to get to the bottom of what was happening to our tiny guy, and ensure he survived it. If you know henry, you will know he is a spritely and full of life, even despite his diagnosis and the heavy painkillers he's currently on - He's the life of the party always and the most affectionate, empathetic and charismatic guy we've ever met. He has been with Nick since 2021 and kept him going during a difficult few years in his life. Connie has spent every day from morning to night side by side with him for the last year and the bond they have formed is inseparable, much like his bond to our two other cats, Minks and Love. He has been with us individually through the extreme personal hardships of life and together through the beginning of our relationship back in 2023, and every beautiful moment, milestone and hardship life has thrown in between. He is an integral part of our little family and to lose him before his time would be a devastation that we would feel for the rest of our life.
After much thought, we decided to start this go fund me to try and recoup anything we can for henrys treatment, and ensure we can afford his follow up ecg in 5 days time (estimated at over $1k ) as well as his reoccurring cardio work ups with the first one being in 6-9 months time (estimated over $2-3k). Being a newly wed couple on a single income, with Nick working 50 hours per week to keep us afloat and Connie still waiting for her Canadian work permit (rue you Canadian immigration) after moving from Australia last year. We have postponed plans for our larger wedding that we anticipated on having in 2027 to celebrate with family and friends that couldn't make our tiny court house elopement last year and have had to cancel our visit to England next year to see Connie's parents and 96 year old grandpa for the first time since she left England, 8 years ago, In order to afford henrys treatment, as well as depleting everything we have in our credit card and current accounts. We are now living paycheck to paycheck again after only recently gaining financial footing in our current circumstances.
We know that using every resource we have to keep henry with us was/is worth it but now we are reaching out to our community, our family and friends, those that love us, know us or have ever felt henry's magic and warmth to help us gain stable footing whilst continuing to support henry's recovery during an extremely stressful and scary time.
We know times are tight for everyone right now and we know the state of the world as a whole is in shambles. But right now, we've been forced to focus on our personal world and doing what we can to keep it in tact. We appreciate you taking the time to read this page, and we thank you from the deepest parts of heart for any funds raised here.
Eternally grateful,
