Henrik's seven-year brain cancer journey has been though, but never as tough as right now. On May 18th he underwent his 4th major brain surgery. His recovery is beyond anything we've seen before and is going to be a bigger fight that even chemo & radiation were in 2015. This surgery was far more extensive than any he's had prior and it's left him completely dependent upon us for his basic needs. While he's expected to fully recover, we're told we're looking at weeks if not months of intensive inpatient physical therapy. He needs to re-learn how to do the most basic of self-care, move his left side, and regain short term memory.
Putting up a GoFundMe wasn't something I wanted to do. The truth is our family is hurting right now, from a lack of finances, adding to our devastation in how this surgery has affected our son. Henrik's dad has been on a leave of absence from work due to our household being high risk in the pandemic. Unemployment Insurance has dropped the ball, as they have with so many thousands. It took them from January until now to decide Peter filed under the wrong program and say he know owes thousands in back pay. That "should" resolve in time, but in the meantime he hasn't seen a weekly payment in almost two months. It's left us short on funds to cover monthly bills - including our health insurance premiums. Any donations will go toward basics like utilities and insurance premiums and gas for daily travel into Seattle to keep our family afloat until unemployment decides to fix Peter's case...and they won't give any kind of timeline. Sending him back to work in a crowded factory right now when Henrik is suddenly at even higher risk in the pandemic could be devastating health-wise.
