Henrietta Lacks Statue in Roanoke
Tax deductible
Henrietta Lacks was a poor African American woman born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 1, 1920. She moved to Maryland and died October 4, 1951, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Her legacy lives on through her immortal cells which have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Now the Roanoke Valley community has the opportunity to honor her memory and her significant contributions to medical research. Roanoke City Council has made the decision to rename a portion of Lee Plaza to Lacks Plaza, and a life-size sculpture will be erected to memorialize her amazing contributions to the world! These public donations (which are tax-deductible) can help make this a reality!
