Please, please call 9-1-1,” my seventy-three year old Grandma begged. Gasping for breath both my Grandparents escaped the raging fire that consumed the second floor of the place they called “home” for 20 years. In tears of disbelief that reflected the flickering orange of the fire and flashing red of multiple first responders, my Grandparents watched in horror.

 

​     If you have ever met Henrietta & Mike you can tell why they are loved by their community. My Grandparents always go out of their way to serve others without expecting anything in return. They are generous not only with their time, but also with their food. It is nearly impossible for one to meet my Grandparents without them insisting that you try their homemade yogurt and Albanian dishes. They are also incredible stewards of the home that they lived in. My Grandparents poured their love, time, and savings into this home that has been in my family for forty years.  In my Grandparents old age when one would expect someone to be taking care of them, they continued to provide loving care for others.

 

​     Sadly, this past Thursday, September 22nd a tragic fire destroyed their beautiful residence. Due to circumstances beyond their control, the security of their safe home was taken from them overnight. They still wake up traumatised and anxious wishing what happened was just a bad dream. Thankfully, by the Grace of God, no one sustained permanent injuries.
