Dear Friends, We’re reaching out to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help Henok Mehari and we need your help. Henok was born and raised in Abashawil, Asmara in Eritrea. Those who grew up with Henok Mehari may have heard that he is currently suffering from chronic spinal problems. He is now demobilized from national service and bounded in bed. Henok had local medical examinations and he was told the required surgery cannot be done in Eritrea and recommended to go to Germany or ltaly, as they offer surgery for his disc condition. He has been in national service for many years until he was dismissed in 2023 due to his prolonging medical issues, but now as a result of his diagnosis, specialists have recommended surgery in Germany or Italy, but as he was in national service all his adulthood, he and his family can’t raise the fund estimated for his treatment. Henok is a father of 5 children and as he is now bed bound, he can’t even support his own family. Those of us that knew him since childhood and in general to all those who have met him, know that he had a fierce spirit and inspires so many young people. The effects of his illness are devastating his family. The prognosis, with the treatment abroad, is a 75 percent chance to recovery. The payment is over $60,000 for hospital fees which is too much for Henok to pay. We can’t cure Henok but we can help ease the financial burden and resultant stress that the family is facing if we all come together and do what we can.
