As many of you already know my son Damien was involved in a very serious car accident Friday night. My child almost had his life taken from him as a passenger in a car just 2 days after his high school graduation. Thank for he had his seatbelt on!! He was trapped in the car for a very long time as he was bleeding uncontrollably from his head to the point they had to use the jaws of life to get him out of the car. The EMT told me he was her worst ENT she has ever seen as an EMT. He was the most critical out of the 4 boys that were in the car. He has a huge gash on his head that needed staples and stitches, a broken femur which needed surgery, a broken elbow which also needed surgery, (4 hour surgery) he needed a blood transfusion from all the blood he lost, and they had to transfer him from BMC to bay state where we have been since Saturday morning because he had a small bleed in his brain. By some miracle he is alive and I am beyond grateful and lucky to be sitting by my child that is not only alive but breathing on his own. We have been in the hospital since Friday and we will continue to be here for a while. At least until he can take steps on his own. Even after we get home he will not be able to move for weeks and won’t be able to be left alone because he will have to be on bed rest for weeks so he can properly heal without causing further damage. Along with that we will have tons of follow up appointments and physical therapy. This leads to me being out for work for awhile and unfortunately I haven’t been employed with my current job for the required time to collect FMLA. On top of emotionally being drained I am now mentally stressed out on how I'm going to keep afloat. This really was a huge ball to swallow having to set this.
