Hembras de Pluma 2017

Hembras de Pluma returns to the National Hispanic Cultural Center with a brand new show this March. Rise: An Offering is an ensemble piece that weaves movement, personal stories, song and imagery to lift up generations of resilience, pain, triumph, and navigating the world as women.
Hembras de Pluma is a collective of Indigenous and Women of Color who share our stories as a celebration, a form of healing, and an expression of power. We came together in the fall of 2013, gathering in living rooms and around kitchen tables to write. Our writings evolved into monologues, which - through much hard work - evolved into a stage production. We debuted to sold out audiences at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in March 2014, as part of Women & Creativity and were invited to return to the NHCC in 2015 as part of the Siembra Latino Theater Festival.
The Hembras de Pluma collective is Ozawa Bineshi Albert, Michelle Estrada Allred, Maria Teresa Herrera, Michelle Otero, Valli Marie Rivera, Monica T. Rodriguez, Sylvia Sarmiento and Andrea J. Serrano. This year we are pleased to welcome Monica Sánchez as dramaturg and director.
In addition to writing and acting, we concieve and create the set, promote the show, and seek outside expertise for lighting, sound, and costumes.
All of this costs money, and while we will receive proceeds from ticket sales, there are upfront costs that won't be covered by sales. Please support us in lifting this production off the ground and in sustaining our ongoing work to bring women's voices to the stage.
Help launch "Rise: An Offering" by making a tax deductible contribution of $10, $30, $100, or any other amount
Hembras de Pluma takes flight March 9-12 & 16-19, 2017 at the NHCC. Get your tickets now. This production is guaranteed to sell out!
