Walter Freeman Hutchinson II works in The Vista at Shaw, a dining hall at Michigan State University. Everyday Walter wakes up at 5:30 a.m. to make sure he doesn’t miss his 6:15 a.m. bus to work. Walter is homeless. This means Walter has to carry all of his belonging with him everywhere he goes. Being homeless – and carless – means having to plan ahead. Walter carries a suitcase, a duffle bag and a backpack from his shelter to the bus stop, from the bus stop to work and back. Read Walter’s story, you won’t be sorry.

Riley Thyfault (author of the original story on Walter) along with the men of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated at Michigan State University reached out to Walter and told him they would like to help him raise enough money to buy a car. Please help us reach our goal of $5000. Ideally, we would like to help Walter before the snow comes and we realize we may not reach 5000 but every little bit helps. Having to carry all of your belongings with you is a burden no one should have to endure. Especially in the snow. Unfortunately, people pass by the thousands of homeless adults and children each day, paying them no mind. This is our chance to make a differnce in the life of a man who really needs it. All of the proceeds will go toward making a better future for Walter and others like him. Walter also wants to help out the homeless population in his area. With that being said, proceeds will also go toward the City rescue mission of Lansing. Also, we are donating canned goods and turkeys to the City Rescue Mission in Lansing, MI.
