Help Save Veruca

Hi everyone! My name is Bethany, and my kitten is named Veruca (after the Willy Wonka character; a definite misnomer). She’s 9 months old and has been with me for 7 months. Last week (1/17-1/18), we noticed that Veruca’s gums were deathly white and we rushed her to the emergency vet. They discovered that Veruca is severely anemic, which could be a death sentence. Her red blood cell count was the lowest our doctor had seen in a cat that was still living. Veruca was given a blood transfusion, which has helped to stabilize her, but she is still in need of assistance. She’s incredibly sick. As I type this, she is lying next to me wheezing. Veruca is a very active, very lovable cat and it is physically painful to see her like this.


Because of her blood count, we are on a time crunch. We are hoping to get assistance with an ultrasound, future diagnostic tests, and another blood transfusion as soon as possible. The blood transfusion buys us the time to diagnose Veruca and get her on the life saving treatment she needs. A blood transfusion runs for around $2000, and our ultrasound will cost between $250-$550. The remaining funds will be used on x-rays, diagnostic tests, and hospitalization.


My partner and I love this kitten with our whole hearts. She hasn’t been with us long, but it feels like she’s supposed to be. She loves people, and playing fetch, and receiving head pats.
