Help Save Vasanti…My Baby Sister: A Heroic Mother's Medical & Relocation Fund
The Story:
My youngest sister, Vasanti, is a survivor, a protector, and an absolute hero. But right now, she is in the fight of her life, and our family desperately needs your help to bring her to safety.
Recently, in our hometown of New Amsterdam, Guyana, Vasanti was violently attacked by her ex-boyfriend in an attempt to end her life. She was shot five times and brutally pistol-whipped. During this horrific ordeal, the attacker pointed the gun at our 5-year-old niece and threatened to kill her. In that moment, my sister went into absolute survival mode. She fought back with everything she had, redirecting the weapon and miraculously saving both of their lives.
While her attacker is finally in police custody, Vasanti's battle has just begun.
The Aftermath & The Urgent Need for Safety
The physical toll on my sister is devastating. She suffered massive injuries, including a shattered shin-bone, a shattered kneecap, severe tissue and nerve damage, and facial scarring. She is currently incapacitated, enduring painful treatments with an external fixator on her leg, and we do not yet know what her long-term mobility will look like.
To make matters worse, she is still receiving anonymous threats. The psychological trauma for Vasanti and her two beautiful children, Theo (2) and Nini (9), is ongoing. She cannot protect herself in her current state, and the city of New Amsterdam is no longer safe for her to remain living.
The Plan To Save Vasanti
Our family is doing everything in our power to relocate Vasanti and her children to the U.S.A. We are pursuing legal asylum in the United States so she can permanently leave this nightmare behind, heal in a secure environment, and give her children a stable future.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Relocating a family of three (Vasanti and her two kids) to the US and funding complex medical care without insurance is a massive, overwhelming financial undertaking. We have set our goal at $80,000 to cover the critical costs of saving her life and getting her on her feet with a NEW START in a new location away from her violent past. Here is exactly how the funds will be used:
Housing & Living Expenses ($33,600): Asylum seekers cannot legally work in the US while their application is pending. This will cover 12 months of rent, utilities, and essential living costs in the United States so they have a safe roof over their heads while they wait for healing and work authorization.
U.S. Medical Care & Trauma Therapy ($20,000): Out-of-pocket costs for her upcoming orthopedic surgeries, intensive physical therapy to help her walk again, and critical trauma counseling for her and her children.
Immigration & Legal Fees ($10,000): Retaining an expert immigration attorney to handle her complex asylum case and secure her permanent safety.
Immediate Care & Medical Relocation ($16,400): Covering her outstanding hospital bills in Guyana, medications, and the high cost of 3 one-way flights to Atlanta, including specialized medical transport accommodations for her shattered leg.
