NO DOG DESERVES TO LOSE THEIR LIFE BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO MUCH!

Zeus was never meant to become “just another difficult rescue Dog.”

When he first arrived into Gypsea Tails care after deciding just to foster Zues through SAFE ESPERANCE, he was described as

He barked constantly, struggled to regulate his emotions, & found it difficult to calmly connect with both Dogs & humans.

But underneath all of that?

He is one of the most loving, sensitive, hilarious souls we’ve ever met.

Over the past 8 weeks, Zeus has been part of our Gypsea Tails rehabilitation & training program, receiving daily behavioural support, nervous system regulation work, somatic-based care, structure, decompression adventures, & ongoing guidance to help him feel safe again.

And slowly… he began to change.

He learnt how to settle.

And honestly?

The world is his favourite thing now.

Zeus comes with sass, energy, neediness, dramatic opinions, an Olympic-level bark reflex, & absolutely zero respect for personal space. He is loud, emotional, hilarious, deeply affectionate, & somehow manages to make every single day feel chaotic and joyful at the same time.

He has settled beautifully alongside our cat , chickens, other Dogs and humans. Sharing his time between our home & Georgia's. He carries around his comfort toys when he feels overwhelmed, & has become incredibly bonded to us.

In the middle of all this, we discovered something completely unexpected…

Zeus is actually related to one of our long-term Gypsea Tails clients, Pepper. Same litter. Same bloodline. Same oversized personalities. A completely wild coincidence that somehow made us feel even more connected to him.

Then we received heartbreaking news...

A lump on Zeus’s leg was tested and confirmed to be a malignant mast cell tumour.

The rescue organisation, already under financial strain, could not continue funding further treatment and we were faced with two options:

Adopt Zeus and take on the medical costs ourselves… or euthanasia.

For us, there was no decision to make.

Zeus is now officially part of our family.

We could not let a Dog who has fought so hard, grown so much, and finally learnt what safety and connection feel like lose his life simply because he needs extra support.

We are now raising funds to help cover:

The estimated cost for surgery and immediate care is currently $1,800+, with possible additional costs depending on results and treatment recommendations.

And this is also the heartbreaking reality of rescue…

Senior Dogs with ongoing health issues often don’t get adopted.

The adoption fee for older Dogs can be as little as $500, but many people understandably feel overwhelmed by the possibility of future vet bills, behavioural support, or emotional stress. Rescue organisations are drowning financially, and difficult decisions are made every single day.

Too many Dogs lose their lives simply because they are old, sick, anxious, “too much,” or expensive to save.
