Here's my entire 2022...
Fiancé and I wanted to move back home to Washington. I had $5,000 saved up and was ready to get my life together outside of my parents, becoming an independent adult. I asked roommate if he wanted to live with us, he said yes. So I began my apartment/house hunting looking for 2 bed places either in Marysville or Everett. Roommate wanted Marysville more, but didn't mind Everett. At the time I couldn't find anything available in Marysville, so I started looking in Everett.
First off, awful decision. After Fiancé and I had gotten here we had to hotel hop and had the money to do it until our move in date; cool, no problem for me. However, on day of our move in...our apartment told us that we weren't moving in yet and wouldn't be until January 15th. I started panicking big time, but okay, another few weeks... I can get through this! I asked roommate if we could stay with him because he had moved from the garage to roommates exes room but he told us there wasn't space and the cat there had flees so we just hopped over the the hotel in Marysville where I was working at the time
Things were going fine, roommate would occasionally hang out at the hotel with Fiancé and I because we had a two queen bedroom. I didn't think my life would turn around in a full 360 so quick. What was a day of joy to finally leave the hotel and move into our new apartment became a complete nightmare within hours. After moving everything in Fiancé and I went to do some grocery shopping and when I'd thought that I still had at least $1,000 in my account, I ended up having $50. I broke down crying at the cash register and had panicked for a solid hour before having to go back to work in Marysville...
Anyway fast forward a few weeks after this event, I called my job noticing that I had a day off of work on the weekend and asked if I could work that night too. I was told over the phone "We don't think you should come back, you don't seem to be liking it here" and quite frankly no I didn't, but even while stressed af I came into work on time everyday, I showed up when I wasn't even on the clock to help out at times while living at the hotel, and I worked various shifts doing things that I didn't want to. So yeah, I got fired from my job literally within weeks of getting into this place.
Meanwhile roommate was employed full-time and while he DID pay a little rent, he never paid his full monthly half. Roomate not long after I got fired began b****ing at me for not working and not paying anything even though I was using my tax returns and whatever extra money I could get while being unemployed (didn't receive unemployment) to pay our deposit every month, pay off my debt (still doing that) that I had accrued from the move in itself, groceries, and any other household items we needed. I even went on offerup and found free couches and the big black shelf I have for my snake. I was cautiously spending the last of what I had available. Fast forward to the end of February... Fiancé and I had gotten REALLY sick (I think it was strep) it had lasted the entirety of March. Roomate had left Fiancé and I, to move back in with roomates ex. Still sick as h****, I was unemployed, unable to even make it to the interviews that I had gotten, due to how badly I was doing. So here Fiancé and I are, our roommate had abandoned the lease after endlessly treating us like s*** for the whole month of February.
Before Fiancé and I had gotten sick I tried to hold a housewarming party because this was my first apartment and I was super excited to finally live away from my parents and prove all the hard work I have put in. Roomate did not approve one bit to this even though I had been talking about it prior to even moving in with him. I was super excited. Roomate would constantly get p***** with us for trying to invite people over, even going as far to b*****ing at us for hanging out at Fiancé's sisters house with nephew, assuming that we had them over. I get not wanting people over, however, Roomate had constantly tried moving several people in here without our knowledge, and constantly brought people over without our knowledge. Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.
Another huge thing that Roomate had pulled was him getting a puppy and saying that Fiancé and I were neglecting and abusing her when realistically, before Roomate had gotten the puppy I had very clearly stated multiple times that I was uncomfortable dogs, it has been known since forever that I do not like dogs.
Okay, fast forward to when Roomate was going to come back to the apartment now. Fiancé and I both told him that we were uncomfortable with him moving back in especially with me now being pregnant. Roomate had been gone from February to about August. Fiancé and I both expressed our concerns and roommate began threatening to take us to court because his name was still on the lease and there wasn't a thing that we could do about it.
Prior to roommate returning I had called for rental assistance due to job not paying me for two months and abandonment of roommate for 8 months.
Rental assistance covered a majority of the years amount owed ($16k)
Roommate returned with no job, sold their car, and had no intention of working whatsoever until we told them that we were planning on leaving; promising and failing to pay their agreed amount of 2k left on the lease.
I shortly after got fired from my job because of my pregnancy. I found a new job and fell in love with it not long after being discriminated against at my previous job.
Roommate told us that we need to get out by October, because they wanted to move new people in.
I had my family visit for my birthday and baby shower in October. Roommate invited someone we don't even know over to my birthday/baby shower that they were well aware of months prior. Fiance and I tried to get our roommate out and they refused.
I went down and asked the apartments for help. They did nothing; telling me that the only thing they could do was have us all sign a roommate removal form with him. He declined of course. Roomate had gone 2 months declining job offers and essentially lived freely off of me, while trying to get onto disability benefits (they denied them for not being able to prove their disability)
01/2023 - My fiancé and I began looking at moving out, and every place we applied to had denied us due to having a balance on our current property, or me not making 3x the rent. I am now currently on my maternity leave at 8 months pregnant and waiting for an approval or denial on my unemployment/PFMLA.
My fiance and I were officially signed off and kicked out by our roommate, and we can't get any help anywhere because of the balance that our roommate won't pay. Due to us already receiving rental assistance, we can't get help again. Please, any amount helps.
Roommate currently expects me to pay the remaining balance on our old apartment, so they and their roommates can start fresh, knowing full well that I am on leave and not earning any income as of right now.
02/2023 I'm currently fighting with the apartments leasing office to get my name off the non existent lease that should've ended on January 14th. I am currently still being charged for a place I no longer live in.
03/2023 - My PFMLA and unemployment were denied
04/2023 - Rental assistance has covered the balance however I'm still not being let off because of my roommate needing to provide paystubs while he no longer has a job.
I fear that I may have an eviction served on my name because of my roommates selfishness. I only have maybe a month to get out of this or I'm stuck again in this never-ending loop of paying for him to live there under my name rent free.
