Help us bring Elena home!
Elena has lived her whole six months of life in the hospital. She's gone from Boston Children's NICU to Franciscan Children's pulmonary rehabilitation unit, because she was born distonic. It's a condition they've had no diagnosis for the cause of, occurring after a normal, uneventful pregnancy.
Emma and James are lovely together with her. They're so positive, and funny, and tender, and devoted. A nurse at Franciscan's told me how proud I should be, and that they're really remarkable for being there all the time, and doing all of her cares, "...sometimes better than some of the paid and trained staff, shh...!" The nurses have even encouraged Emma to go into nursing, something she's now considering, an impressive thing for my once-squeamish daughter, who used to go weak in the ankles! One of the minor miracles of motherhood... I'm very proud of her and James, indeed.
Elena's doctors needed to stabilize her airway to allow her to be able to come home, so she went back to Children's in December to have a tracheostomy. Now that they feel she is stable, a little more than a month later, she has a discharge date for early March.
The problem is, Emma and James are living in a damp basement apartment, an environment they can't bring Elena into because of her respiratory issues. We've been looking for a suitable place to rent; but at this point, we haven't been able to find a suitable place that's affordable. The large initial deposit that is the prevalent demand in this state is just not feasible for us, and the situation has become an emergency.
Will those of you who know and love Emma and James help? Any assistance would be profoundly appreciated, and would help us to bring our little Elena home.
Thank you all sincerely,
Rosemary Yell
