PLEASE HELP TOMMY BATTLE INCLUSION BODY MYOSITIS!!
Tommy, or Uncle Tom as those of us that know and love him call him, has been battling IBM since November 2015. IBM is Inclusion Body Myositis...most of us had never heard of this disease as it is so rare.
When you suffer with IBM, the body’s immune system turns against its own muscles and damages muscle tissue in an autoimmune process. IBM causes progressive weakness of the muscles of the wrists and fingers, the muscles of the front of the thigh, and the muscles that lift the front of the foot.
Tommy has trouble walking, and relies on a cane and will soon need a wheelchair. He is losing strength in his hands and arms to the point where he can't even open a 2 Liter bottle or a can of soda without the help of a tool. He can no longer walk up or down stairs without assistance. He has trouble grasping grocery bags or anything that requires strength to lift. The muscles in his throat are getting worse and it is had for him to swallow food, and even liquids, which is another side effect of this disease. He is progressively getting worse in all areas. This is why with your love, support and donations, we can help Tommy get the stem cell treatment from the Stem Cell Institute that he needs, that will give him a chance to fight this. It is not a guarantee, but it is a fighting chance to get better or delay the degeneration process. We want to do anything we can to help him, so please join us in this battle against IBM for Tommy!
Tom has always been an active man, riding dirt bikes in the desert, and even built his dream dune buggy that he unfortunately can no longer get in and out of. He can no longer enjoy the off road sports he loved so much, nor can he work. Tom has been in the construction business for 25 years, but he can no longer hold tools or climb ladders. You can imagine how hard this life changing disease has been for him and his family.
Tommy has always been the life of any party, with the best smile! He is funny, kind, and has always been a great friend to us and so many others. He is married to Laura and has a 13 year old daughter Maddie, that he adores.
Please donate and help get Tommy this stem cell treatment this summer! THANK YOU! #TOMMYSTRONG
