On May 27th, Tom Hudson was working cattle with his daughter Brittaney, when one of the neighbors came to ask help getting a bull home. In typical Tom fashion, he dropped everything and saddled up his horse ready to help. Shortly after he climbed on, his horse bucked and fell over backwards on top of Tom. When the ambulance finally got him to the hospital, they found out that Tom had shattered his pelvis, broken his right hip and broken 5 vertebrae in his lower back. After a couple of days of waiting for swelling to go down and the internal bleeding to stop, they performed surgery on May 30th. After a 6 hour surgery, they had pieced him back together with 17 screws, 6 plates, and 62 staples. His prognosis for full recovery is above average because of his level of fitness and his body type (he's kind of scrawny) :)
The next 3 months are critical for his recovery. He has to remain completely non weight bearing for the next 90 days. Then he will spend the next 90 days relearning how to walk and move.
Obviously Tom is not going to be able to work for at least the next 6 months. He doesn't qualify for disability pay for 4 months.
This fund is being set up to help Tom and Kim with medical and living expenses over the next few months.
Anyone that knows Tom and Kim know that they are the first people to step up and help others in our community. If you are able to make a donation, it would be appreciated. If you are only able to send prayers or good thoughts, they will take them too.
If you know Tom at all, you know that being immobile is going to be a challenge, but he understands the importance of letting his body fully recover. Let's try to help him be able to focus on getting better.
