On Thursday, April 2, there was a tragic fire at my parents’ home due to an unknown explosion in the garage. My brother, Eric, and dad, Kevin, were in the house, unaware of what was happening at the time. Smelling the smoke, my dad asked Eric if he was cooking something in the kitchen. When Eric said no, my dad quickly ran down the stairs and opened the garage door where he was hit by a huge flame that caused second-degree burns on his face.  Eric was unable to go down the stairs due to the severity of the flames, and he was forced to jump out of the second story window causing ankle injuries.

Thankfully my brother and dad made it out safely, along with one of our dogs. Our other dog, Happy, was stuck in the fire for over an hour, inhaling incredible amounts of smoke. Once he was rescued by firefighters, we rushed him to the emergency clinic, and he is doing better day by day. He is still unable to walk and function properly, but we are hoping for a quick recovery.

Because we were renting the home, our losses will not be covered by insurance. My parents and brother lost all of their possessions in this fire. My husband and I are expecting our first baby girl in just a few weeks, and we also lost everything for our baby since her nursery and baby shower gifts were there at the time. We are doing our best to remain hopeful and we’re praying for miracles as we prepare to welcome our baby very soon!
