Sharon and Captain David Luther launched their dream business in 2008, The Belle of Topsail ("The Belle"). The Belle, a 55-foot replica of an 1880's turn of the century riverboat, cruised the scenic waters of the North Carolina Intracoastal Waterway. Accommodating up to 49 passengers, she offered picturesque views, casual dining, gorgeous sunsets, dolphin sightings, and a unique venue for weddings and anniversaries. The Belle was not only familiar in the annual Christmas Floatilla and Thanksgiving Day dinner cruise, but offered creative and original events such as "Dead Man Floating" Halloween cruises, "Yappy Hour" cruises for patrons and their dogs, and the memorable pirate cruises just to name a few. Hydro bikes were recently added to their list of friendly adventures to help boost revenues. The Belle also had the distinction of being rated the number one attraction on Topsail Island.
In recent years, David's health had started to decline, leading to the difficult and painful decision to sell the business and retire, taking both him and The Belle out of commission. The Luther's were preparing The Belle and the business for sale so they could use the proceeds for retirement. Unfortunately, Hurricane Florence has taken this away along with everything else. Sharon and David, who was recently released from the hospital, are now temporarily living with a friend near Raleigh, NC.
