Tiffany Grace Hoots was born last year just before Christmas. James and Christina Hoots got the gift of a beautiful baby girl while two-year-old Logan Hoots got a little sister. Tiffany had been doing great up until the beginning of June when her health suddenly took a turn. A high fever, amongst other symptoms, resulted in her immediate hospitalization. After days of serious and invasive testing, she was ultimately diagnosed on June 9th, 2015 with a very rare and life-threatening immunodeficiency disorder called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH for short.
HLH affects mostly infants under 18 months. It is basically the body's immune system over-reacting, and targeting healthy cells in the body. Tiffany has started the treatment for HLH, which includes steroids and chemotherapy. Her full treatment plan and prognosis are not yet fully known, however she is under the excellent care of a doctor who worked at Children's Hospital in Cincinatti, OH, which is the leading hospital in the country for treatment of HLH. Often times the treatment for HLH necessitates a bone marrow transpant.
Now that the Hoots know what they're up against they've started the fight. The family has a tough road ahead of them, and will need all the support they can get. The hospital where Tiffany is being treated is over an hour's drive from their home. Between travel, meal purchases, etc., their daily expenses are already adding up. Plus, they are unsure as to what future medical costs they may incur for Tiffany's treatment. Any and all donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated by Christina and James.
Please keep Tiffany, and the entire Hoots family, in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much.
