My name is Bishop Phillip Campbell and I have organized this fundraiser to help my grandniece to receive the urgent medical treatment she needs. Her mom describes her journey below.

When I found out I was going to be a mom, everything changed. From that moment on, my life would be completely different. I was determined to eat the things I should and stay away from anything that would hinder the development of a healthy baby. Its’s hard to comprehend how you can share a special bond and have unconditional love for someone you have never even met. Nonetheless, I was filled with excitement at the thought of all the precious memories I was about to experience with my baby girl.
I gave birth to Tayah and it was the best feeling in the world. Ten little fingers, ten little toes, 7lbs 14oz with a full head of hair…she was absolutely adorable. I couldn't wait to be released from the hospital so I could introduce her to her big brother Riley she frequently played with while in my womb.

Four months later, during a routine wellness visit something unexpected happens. Time seems to stand still, as the head physician is called to take a look. Suddenly, motherhood has a new and unfamiliar dimension, as the joy and happiness are immediately replaced by a tremendous concern because my daughter is diagnosed with Congenital Cataracts in both eyes.
At first I didn't want to believe it. My heart was broken and I blamed myself because it must have been something I did wrong, although the doctors tried to convince me otherwise. On the one hand, my soul hurt and I was completely devastated, but on the other hand the doctors kept telling me that my daughter had to start her treatment immediately because if left untreated, she would lose her sight. So, I was forced to put my emotions aside and take action.
Within the weeks that followed, Tayah was referred to the United States by local doctors and underwent two eye surgeries to remove the cataracts, all before the age of one year.

After her surgery Tayah was required to wear special contacts that cost $600 per pair and had to be replaced every 3 months, quite an expense, considering our insurance vision coverage is only $400 per year. From that point on, we have travelled back and forth from The Bahamas to the USA every 3-6 months, at the request of her doctors, to make sure there were no further complications.
All was well until this past summer when Tayah started crying due to severe pain she was experiencing in her eye. I must admit that I was completely terrified at the thought of having to travel to the USA with two young children (4yrs & 6yrs) in the middle of Covid -19, but I had absolutely no choice because the pain was getting more intense. Upon our arrival at the hospital, we hit another unexpected road block when the doctor looked over at me and said "We need to prepare Tayah for an emergency surgery". The cost of this third surgery was $82,000.00, our insurance co-pay was $15,000.00. What started out as a three day trip to the doctor turned into a two month stay in the USA attending to her medical needs. This was another major financial hit.

While her third surgery was a success, the vision in her right eye is minimal, and there is nothing offered in the USA to reverse the damage or improve her condition. After countless hours of extensive research, in an effort to prevent further vision loss and improve her sight I came across a facility in Thailand. They are the largest stem cell bank in the world, successfully performing stem cell therapy for patients with eye issues. Their success rate has given me a new found hope for getting my daughter the medical treatment needed to improve her quality of life.
While the chances of vision rejuvenation with this procedure are quite high, the costs associated are astronomical. The cost for treatment in excess of $60,000, as the facility does not accept insurance as a form of payment. As a single mother, this far exceeds my current financial capabilities as Tayah still has outstanding medical bills from her previous surgeries and doctors appointments in the USA that are still ongoing. I am asking for your contribution in any amount to assist me in getting her the urgent treatment she needs to restore her vision. If you are unable to assist financially, I completely understand and would be grateful if you would just share her story on your social media platforms so that those who are in a position to financially assist can do so. Thank you for being apart of her success story!
