Simi's Eye Surgery Fund
Donation protected
This is Simi is our oldest daughter. She’s always been a free spirit and very hard working. She’s always been a kind, open minded child who always did her best to help those around. When Simi was in middle school she started having vision problems so logically we got her glasses, hoping that would help improve her vision. As most parents we didn’t worry too much about it, everyone needed glasses. But as she got older her vision quickly started to decline. Before we knew it the glasses could no longer help correct her vision and we were at specialist office after specialist office to try to figure out what was going on.
We finally found out that she had Keratoconus. Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision. We were told that if her eyesight were to continue to degenerate she would need corneal replacement surgery.
For a while corneal replacement surgery seemed like our only option until we heard about a procedure that was still in its clinical trials called Crosslinking. Corneal collagen cross-linking is a procedue that is used to help strengthen the corenas and stop the degeneration. The kerataconus has progressed so far that it is considered severe in her right eye. We are trying to raise fund to help pay for the procedure and medical bills.
We got the first eye done and we are trying to set a tentative date to do the second eye. But in time we got the first eye done (June 14) to when we are trying to get the second eye done (August 24) the medical manufacturer that produces the necessary protein to make the crosslinking procedure happen has doubled the price of the protein thus setting us back a bit. Since they are the only company that makes the protein its either we pay or we don't.
We appreciate any and all help
Thank you all very much and Bless you!
