On May 24th 2018, our world came to a halt when Shyann was diagnosed with an adolescent bone cancer. What had been a nagging pain for months in the hip area turned out to be the last thing any parent or family wants to hear. No one wants to think that this can happen, let alone to a child that we love. Our smart, funny, interesting, and creative fifteen year old Shyann.
Shy as been under the care of Doctors at Cooks Children Hospital, in Fort Worth, TX. She will have to begin her first round of chemo soon. Under the circumstances Shy's family was already planning to relocate to Sacramento on June 1st. As of right now, we are trying to make it as easy as possible for the transition for Shy's parents and siblings.
From what we know right now from doctors at CCH, is that Shy could be facing six to nine months of chemo treatments. She will have to be home schooled. We are all praying for a full recovery and a joyous return to normal life once this process is over.
However, it is a daunting year ahead. It will be filled with much worry, suffering, and demanding care- and also with strength, wisdom, love and support. Shy's parents and siblings have been feeling the love pour in from so many but we are asking for more of your support.
It is difficult to ask for help, but the year ahead will have many trials. One can only imagine once the chemo treatments begin, one, if not both parents will be joining Shy in the hospital and on top of that, Shy's dad Eric must continue to work to support his family. Eric's job has been unbelievably supportive.
Here is an idea of some things they may have immediate needs for:
Shy wishes for a Mac computer for when she starts home schooling
A Mini Vacation to keep Shy's spirits up
Things to help provide comfort and moral support
Shy is experiencing the fight for her life and anything that provides her with comfort, fun, and enjoyment during this tough time is greatly appreciated.
As we know more in coming weeks, we will keep everyone updated on how Shy is doing. You can follow her on Instagram @shyannfloress!
