Sarah Nitz Boyle laughs at cancer
Last September our friend and co-worker, Sarah Nitz Boyle, was diagnosed with stage 2A breast cancer. At the time of diagnosis the cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes. Still, her doctors gave her a positive prognosis and were quite sure that she would be cancer-free after following their treatment-plan.
First up was chemotherapy. Her initial 8 rounds were upped to 12, but she powered through - through the nausea and the neuropathy and the exhaustion. Last week she completed her chemotherapy, and today she is preparing for the next step. A double mastectomy on March 18th. This surgery will require Sarah to miss four weeks of work. During her recovery time she’ll need assistance with everything from getting dressed to eating lunch.
Also during this recovery time, Sarah’s son, Joseph, will be graduating high school and preparing to leave for Marine Corp. basic training in June. Sarah is extremely fortunate to have a majority of her medical expenses covered by insurance, but out-of-pocket expenses are quickly adding up.
Of course she hasn’t asked for help. She never would. Still, we are in awe of her perseverance and strength. So, in an effort to make these next months as stress-free as possible for Sarah we are having a benefit on Saturday, April 2 at LaffTracks Comedy Club of Novi. We also created this page as some friends have asked how they can donate if they’re not able to make the event.
If you can, please consider making a donation to help alleviate the financial side-effects of a cancer diagnosis so she can get back to the important work of kicking cancer’s ass.
